Rooting out vulnerabilities
Arno Kruse is working freelance through Tergos as a vulnerability manager at Philips in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. ‘If we detect a vulnerability somewhere, then you often find a lot more, the deeper you look. It’s up to me and my colleagues to root out those vulnerabilities and resolve them.’
Arno says that no two workdays are alike. ‘A lot of times, we will get a report on an environment that we don’t even know about yet, and then we have to try to track it down. Sometimes we’re more successful than at other times. We have to be creative and use our technical knowledge along with all kinds of different information sources.’ Born and raised in Limburg, Arno has been working with Tergos since 2018. He greatly enjoys his project at Philips. ‘I am based at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. It’s a lot like a university campus. It’s a very energising, inspiring place to work. You’re working there alongside all kinds of people with different areas of technical expertise. There’s always something interesting going on that you can go and check out.’
Not long after Arno starting working through Tergos as a consultant for Philips, the company started searching for one more employee. ‘It just so happened that my boss at my old job was looking for a new job precisely at that moment. And now, he’s become a member of my team at Philips.’ That colleague also works through Tergos, except as a freelancer. ‘I am really happy about that, because we already know each other really well, so everything’s a bit quicker that way.’ Tergos first approached Arno in 2016, but he was unavailable at that time because he already had a job. ‘At that time, Tergos asked if they could call me back in a couple years. And then, two years later, that’s exactly what they did. After that call, they got the ball rolling.’ Arno says, ‘The same week as they called, they already booked a job interview for me. And one week after that, I was signing my contract. So, it didn’t even take two full weeks, and I was already ready to start my new job at Philips.’ For Arno, it’s the first time he’s worked through a staffing agency. ‘It’s a lot different when you’re an employee at a company. Take, for example, things like career development and HR-related topics. If you're working for a company directly, then these things are often not much of a priority, but at Tergos, it’s one of their main focuses.
